Tennessee Titans

Tennessee Titans are a professional football team that plays in the National Football League (NFL) . The Titans play in the South Division of the American Football Conference. The team plays its home games at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee.

The Titans originated as the Houston Oilers, one of the original franchises in the American Football League (AFL). The league began play in 1960. The franchise relocated to Tennessee for the 1997 season. The team changed its name from the Oilers to the Titans in 1999.

The Oilers won the first two AFL championships in 1960 and 1961. Houston joined the NFL in 1970, when the AFL and NFL merged. The Oilers struggled through much of the 1970’s and 1980’s. The team made its first Super Bowl appearance, as the Titans, in 2000. The Titans lost Super Bowl XXXIV to the Saint Louis Rams (now the Los Angeles Rams ) in one of the most exciting Super Bowl games in history.

The team’s legends have included defensive end Elvin Bethea (1968-1983), quarterback and kicker George Blanda (1960-1966), running back Earl Campbell (1978-1984), running back Eddie George (1996-2003), offensive lineman Bruce Matthews (1983-2001), quarterback Steve McNair (1995-2005), quarterback Warren Moon (1984-1993), and guard Mike Munchak (1982-1993; Titans head coach 2011-2013). Recent stars have included defensive lineman Jurrell Casey, running back Derrick Henry, running back Chris Johnson, and quarterback Marcus Mariota.
