USA Today became the first national, general-interest newspaper in the United States. USA Today is known for its short news stories. The paper also has many color photographs and graphics. USA Today covers both national and international news. It includes articles on business and finance, the economy, entertainment, government, sports, and technology. One section of the newspaper is devoted to brief articles covering each of the 50 U.S. states, allowing travelers to read news from their home state.

USA Today is published Monday through Friday in McLean, Virginia. It is available throughout the United States and in dozens of countries worldwide. USA Today is transmitted via satellite to regional printing plants.

Gannett Co., Inc., a large newspaper chain, launched USA Today in 1982. In 1995, USA Today began to offer an online version of its paper. In 2008, Gannett launched another electronic edition of USA Today, which can be downloaded and read on e-book readers and cell phones.
