Portland Trail Blazers

Portland Trail Blazers are a professional basketball team that plays in the National Basketball Association (NBA). The team competes in the Northwest Division of the Western Conference. The Trail Blazers play in the Moda Center in Portland, Oregon.

Portland entered the NBA for the 1970-1971 season. The first major star for the team was the high-scoring guard Geoff Petrie. Portland won its only NBA championship in 1976-1977. The stars of that team included center Bill Walton, forward Maurice Lucas, and guards Lionel Hollins and Dave Twardzik. Jack Ramsay was the coach. Portland finished second in its division five straight seasons from 1983 to 1988. Among the stars of those teams were forwards Kiki Vandeweghe and Clyde Drexler.

The Trail Blazers made the NBA finals in 1989-1990 and 1991-1992 behind Drexler, guard Terry Porter, and forward Buck Williams. Portland won a division title in 1998-1999, led by center Arvydas Sabonis and forward Rasheed Wallace. The Trail Blazers did not make the playoffs from 2003 to 2008 but tied for the division title with Denver in 2008-2009. Stars of the team included guard Brandon Roy and forward LaMarcus Aldridge. Portland made the playoffs for seven seasons beginning in 2013-2014, reaching the conference finals in 2018-2019. Stars of the teams included the high-scoring guards Damian Lillard and C. J. McCullom.
