Brigid, Saint (451?-523?), also called Bride, is a patron saint of Ireland. According to tradition, Brigid took vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience in the presence of the missionary bishop, Saint Patrick, who bestowed on her the nun’s veil. Brigid founded the first nunnery in Ireland at Kildare. She is the patron of those engaged in dairy work. Her feast day is February 1.
