Jones was born on Jan. 16, 1969, in Pensacola, Florida. He fought in the 1988 Summer Olympic Games, winning the light middleweight silver medal. Many people thought that the judges’ scoring in that match unfairly favored Jones’s opponent and cost Jones the gold medal. It became one of the most controversial decisions in Olympic Games history. Jones was still named Outstanding Boxer of the games. Jones fought his first professional bout in 1989. He retired from boxing in 2018.
