Duncan, Tim

Duncan, Tim (1976-…), was a dominant player in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Duncan, who stands 6 feet 11 inches (211 centimeters) tall, played center and forward. He spent his entire 19-year NBA career playing for the San Antonio Spurs . Duncan helped lead the Spurs to the NBA championship in 1999, 2003, 2005, and 2007. He was named the NBA Most Valuable Player for the 2001-2002 and 2002-2003 regular seasons. He was the NBA Finals Most Valuable Player in 1999, 2003, and 2005. Duncan and Shaquille O’Neal shared the title of Most Valuable Player in the NBA All-Star Game in 2000.

Duncan ranks 14th on the NBA career scoring list with 26,091 points. He also finished sixth in rebounds with 15,091 and fifth in blocked shots with 3,020. Duncan was named to the NBA All-Defensive first team eight times.

Timothy Theodore Duncan was born on April 25, 1976, in St. Croix in the Virgin Islands . He was an All-American player at Wake Forest University and won several awards as player of the year his last season in 1996-1997. San Antonio selected Duncan as the first pick in the 1997 NBA draft. That year, he received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Wake Forest. Duncan was NBA Rookie of the Year for the 1997-1998 season. He retired after the 2015-2016 season. Duncan was elected to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2020.
