Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich is a leading German soccer club. Soccer is called football in Germany and many other countries. Bayern Munich competes in Germany’s Bundesliga, the country’s top soccer league. It plays its home games in the Allianz Arena in Munich.

Bayern Munich has won many championships, both domestically and internationally. The team won the European Cup in 1974, 1975, and 1976 and its successor, the European Champions League, in 2001, 2013, and 2020. Bayern Munich also won the Bundesliga title and the domestic German Cup in 2013, becoming the first German team to win all three titles in one season. The team won these three titles again in 2020. The club also won the European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1967, the Club World Cup in 2013 and 2020, and the UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) Cup in 1996. The club has won the Bundesliga 33 times, and the DFB (German Football) Cup 20 times. The 2019-2020 season was the 13th time the club won both titles in the same season. In 2023, Bayern Munich won the Bundesliga for a record 11th straight year.

Many great players have starred for Bayern Munich, most notably Franz Beckenbauer, who led the team as a player, head coach, and president. Other greats include fullback Philipp Lahm; forwards Robert Lewandowski, Gerd Müller, and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge; winger Franck Ribéry; goalkeepers Sepp Maier and Manuel Neuer; and defenders Andreas Brehme, Lothar Matthaus, and Paul Breitner. Bayern Munich was established in 1900.
