Celtic competes in the Scottish Premiership, Scotland’s highest soccer league. The club plays its home games at Celtic Park in Glasgow. Celtic’s rivalry with the Rangers Football Club, which also plays in Glasgow, is one of the most intense in European soccer.

Celtic has been a dominant club in Scottish soccer for more than 100 years. The club has won Scotland’s highest league 53 times. Under Scottish manager Jock Stein, Celtic won 9 consecutive league titles beginning in 1965-1966. Celtic also won 9 consecutive league titles beginning in 2011-2012. The 2016-2017 team became the first team in Scotland’s highest league to finish the season undefeated in over 100 years. Celtic finished the season with 34 wins and 4 ties. In 1967, Celtic became the first British club to win the European Cup. The European Cup became the UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) Champions League beginning with the 1992-93 season.

Star players for Celtic have included forward Jimmy (Jinky) Johnstone and defenders Danny McGrain and Billy McNeill, all of Scotland; and forward Henrik Larsson of Sweden. Celtic was established in 1887.
