Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur, << TOT nam HOT spur or TOT uh nam HOT spur >> , is a leading British soccer club. Soccer is called football in the United Kingdom and many other countries. Tottenham Hotspur competes in the Premier League, the top soccer league in England. The team, often called the “Spurs,” plays its home games at White Hart Lane stadium in London.

Tottenham Hotspur has won two league titles and eight FA Cups awarded by the FA (Football Association), the body that governs English soccer. The team won both titles in 1961, becoming the first English club to win the “double” since Aston Villa won it in 1897. Tottenham Hotspur won the European Cup Winners Cup in 1963 and the UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) Cup in 1972 and 1984.

Many world-famous soccer stars have played for the Spurs. They include midfielders Osvaldo (Ossie) Ardiles of Argentina, David Ginola of France, and Paul Gascoigne, Glenn Hoddle, Gary Lineker, and Chris Waddle of England. Outstanding Spurs forwards have included Jimmy Greaves of England and Jurgen Klinsmann of Germany. Tottenham Hotspur was established in 1882.
