Center for Workforce Inclusion, The

Center for Workforce Inclusion, The, is a nonprofit organization that provides community activities and employment opportunities for older adults in the United States. It was formerly called Senior Service America. The organization operates two main programs: the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) and the Senior Environmental Employment Program (SEE).

SCSEP << SEE sep >> began in the 1960’s as part of a campaign to fight poverty. In 1973, it became a national program under the Older Americans Act. Participants in SCSEP earn wages while working in training positions at nonprofit and government organizations. They develop marketable job skills and contribute valuable services to their communities. Participants are low-income individuals 55 years of age and older. The program is funded by the U.S. Department of Labor.

The SEE Program places experienced older workers in positions where they can help protect the environment and strengthen their communities. SEE participants provide technical assistance on projects for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and other federal agencies. The program is funded through a grant from the EPA.

The Center for Workforce Inclusion is based in the Washington, D.C., area. Its website at https://www.centerforworkforceinclusion.org provides additional information about the organization and its programs.
