Woodland-star is any of a group of plants with small, rounded flowers that somewhat resemble stars. Woodland-stars grow in western North America. People also refer to these plants as prairie stars.
Woodland-stars are perennials—that is, plants that live for more than two years. They usually grow from 4 to 24 inches (5 to 60 centimeters) tall. The plants’ slender stems end in small clusters of white, pink, or purple flowers. Their leaves are round and may be toothed or lobed.
Gardeners typically plant woodland-stars in dry soil. The flowers bloom from early spring to midsummer.
