Frederik VIII (1843-1912), of the House of Glücksborg, was king of Denmark from 1906 to 1912. Frederik, also spelled Frederick, was born on June 3, 1843. His father was Christian IX. One of Frederik’s brothers became King George I of Greece, and several of his sisters married royal heirs. Frederik’s second son, Carl, was crowned King Haakon VII of Norway. Frederik died on May 14, 1912, and his oldest son succeeded him as Christian X.
