Tomlinson, LaDainian

Tomlinson, LaDainian (1979-…),became an outstanding running back in the National Football League (NFL). While playing for the San Diego Chargers (now called the Los Angeles Chargers) in 2006, Tomlinson had one of the greatest seasons in the history of the NFL. He set NFL records for most total touchdowns (31), most rushing touchdowns (28), and most points scored (186). He was named the NFL’s Most Valuable Player for 2006. In 2003, he became the first player in NFL history to rush for 1,000 yards and catch 100 passes in one season. Tomlinson also led the NFL in rushing for the 2007 season with 1,474 yards.

Tomlinson was born on June 23, 1979, in Rosebud, Texas. He played for Texas Christian University from 1997 to 2000. He led the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) in rushing in 1999 and 2000. In 1999, Tomlinson set an NCAA record for rushing in one game with 406 yards. San Diego chose him in 2001 as the fifth player in the NFL draft. After the Chargers released him in 2010, Tomlinson signed with the New York Jets. He announced his retirement as a player in 2012. Tomlinson was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2017.
