Witherspoon, Reese (1976-…), is an American actress. She also has produced motion-picture and television projects. Witherspoon won the 2005 Academy Award as best actress for her portrayal of the country music performer June Carter in Walk the Line. In addition, she has won Golden Globe and Emmy awards for her acting and producing.

Laura Jean Reese Witherspoon was born on March 22, 1976, in New Orleans and raised in Nashville . As a child, she modeled and acted in local television commercials. Witherspoon made her first motion-picture appearance in the teenage romance The Man in the Moon (1991).

After graduating from high school in 1994, Witherspoon attended Stanford University for one year before returning to acting with roles in the thrillers Fear and Freeway (both 1996). Her performance in the 2001 hit comedy Legally Blonde established Witherspoon as one of the top actresses in Hollywood . In the film, Witherspoon plays a Los Angeles sorority girl who attends Harvard Law School to try to win back her boyfriend. The film was followed by the sequel Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde (2003).

Witherspoon’s other films include Jack the Bear and A Far Off Place (both 1993); Pleasantville (1998); Election and Cruel Intentions (both 1999); American Psycho (2000); Sweet Home Alabama (2002); Rendition (2007); Four Christmases (2008); How Do You Know (2010); Water for Elephants (2011); Mud and This Means War (both 2012); The Good Lie, Vice, and Wild (all 2014); Hot Pursuit (2015); and A Wrinkle in Time (2018). She also provided voices for characters in the animated movies Monsters vs. Aliens (2009) and Sing (2016). She acted in and co-produced the television series “Big Little Lies” (2017-2019).

Witherspoon wrote the memoir Whiskey in a Teacup (2018). She was married to the American actor Ryan Phillippe from 1999 to 2006.
