Ottawa Senators

Ottawa Senators are a professional hockey team that plays in the National Hockey League (NHL) . The team competes in the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference. The Senators play in the Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa, Ontario.

The modern Senators entered the NHL for the 1992-1993 season. However, Ottawa played a central role in Canadian hockey dating back to 1884, when an amateur team was established to represent the city. The Ottawa Silver Seven was a dominant team in Canada during the early 1900’s, winning the Stanley Cup in 1903, 1904, and 1905. That team became the Ottawa Senators, which won the Cup in 1909, 1911, 1920, 1921, 1923, and 1927. The Senators were one of the four teams that founded the National Hockey League in 1917. The team played in the NHL until the franchise was disbanded after the 1933-1934 season.

The modern Senators won their first division title in 1998-1999. The team made it to the Stanley Cup finals in 2007 but lost to the Anaheim Ducks . Stars of the modern Senators have included centers Jason Spezza and Alexei Yashin; wingers Daniel Alfredsson, Dany Heatley, and Marian Hossa; defensemen Erik Karlsson and Wade Redden; and goalies Craig Anderson and Patrick Lalime.
