Saint Louis Blues are a professional hockey team that plays in the National Hockey League (NHL) . The Blues compete in the Central Division of the Western Conference. The team plays in the Enterprise Center in St. Louis.
St. Louis entered the NHL for the 1967-1968 season and played its way into the Stanley Cup finals in its first three seasons. Although the Blues lost all three finals, no new team in NHL history had gotten off to such a fast start. St. Louis assembled a roster of NHL veteran players during its early years, including goalie Glenn Hall, center Red Berenson, defenseman Al Arbour, and left winger Ab McDonald. They were joined by such skillful younger players as right winger Gary Sabourin and brothers Barclay and Bob Plager, who became star defensemen in the league.
The Blues advanced to the playoffs every year from 1980 to 2004. Several prominent players starred with the Blues during the 1980’s and 1990’s, including right winger Brett Hull , left winger Brian Sutter, center Adam Oates, and defenseman Al MacInnis. Among the top Blues players in the early 2000’s were MacInnis, center and left winger Keith Tkachuk, centers Patrik Berglund and T. J. Oshie, defenseman Chris Pronger, left winger David Perron, and right winger Scott Young.
In 2019, the Blues won the Stanley Cup for the first time in their history. They defeated the Boston Bruins in seven games in the Stanley Cup finals. The team was led by stars that included defenseman Alex Pietrangelo, forward Vladimir Tarasenko, goalie Jordan Binnington, and center Ryan O’Reilly. Reilly won the Conn Smythe Trophy as the Most Valuable Player in the 2019 playoffs.
