Anaheim Ducks are a professional hockey team that plays in the National Hockey League (NHL) ). The Ducks compete in the Pacific Division of the Western Conference. The team plays in the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
Anaheim entered the NHL as an expansion team for the 1993-1994 season as the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. At that time, the team was owned by the Walt Disney Company , which took the team’s name from a 1992 Disney movie about a hockey team. The team was sold in 2005, and its name was changed to the Anaheim Ducks in 2006.
Anaheim first made the playoffs in the 1996-1997 season, reaching the conference semifinals. The team reached the finals of the Stanley Cup in 2002-2003, losing to the New Jersey Devils in seven games. The Ducks won the Stanley Cup for 2006-2007, led by defenseman Scott Niedermayer, right winger Teemu Selänne, and goalie Jean-Sébastien Giguere. The team won its division championship every season from 2012-2013 through 2016-2017.
