Christie, Julie (1941-…), is a British motion-picture actress known for her beauty and her intelligent portrayals of a wide variety of characters. She won an Academy Award as best actress for Darling (1965), in which she played an ambitious model. Christie is probably best known for her role as Lara, the love interest of the title character in the romantic Russian epic Dr. Zhivago (1965), based on the novel by the Russian writer Boris Pasternak.
Julie Frances Christie was born on April 14, 1941, in Chabua, Assam, India, where her father owned a tea plantation. She studied acting at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London. Christie appeared in the British science-fiction television series “A for Andromeda” (1961). Her first film was the British comedy Crooks Anonymous (1962).
