Watts, Naomi (1968-…), is a British-born Australian motion-picture actress. She is known especially for her work in thrillers.
Naomi Ellen Watts was born on Sept. 28, 1968, in Shoreham, Kent, England. She moved with her family to Australia when she was 14 years old and soon after began acting in television commercials. Watts made her motion-picture acting debut in 1986 in the historical romance For Love Alone. In 1991, she appeared in the Australian soap opera “Home and Away” and the Australian television miniseries Brides of Christ.
Watts gained fame in 2001 for her role as a would-be Hollywood actress in the thriller Mulholland Drive. She also won critical acclaim for her performance in 21 Grams (2003). In that film, she played a wife who consents to donate her husband’s heart after a car accident leaves him brain dead.
Watts’s other notable films include Gross Misconduct (1993); Down (2001); The Ring (2002) and its sequel, The Ring Two (2005); Ned Kelly and Le divorce (both 2003); The Assassination of Richard Nixon and I Heart Huckabees (both 2004); Ellie Parker (2005); King Kong (2005), a remake of the classic 1933 motion picture; The Painted Veil (2006); Eastern Promises (2007); The International and Mother and Child (both 2009); and You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger and Fair Game (both 2010). In Fair Game, she portrayed the Central Intelligence Agency operations officer Valerie Plame, who claimed that her identity had been leaked to the press by members of the administration of President George W. Bush. She also starred in J. Edgar and Dream House (both 2011); The Impossible (2012); Sunlight Jr. (2013); Diana (2013), in which she portrayed Diana, Princess of Wales ; Birdman, St. Vincent, and While We’re Young (all 2014); Demolition and The Sea of Trees (both 2015); and Shut In (2016).
