Simple machines are tools that help us do work by changing the amount or direction of a force or both. There are six types of simple machines: (1) the inclined plane, (2) the lever, (3) the pulley, (4) the screw, (5) the wedge, and (6) the wheel and axle. They can be combined to make all manner of devices. All machines, even ones as complex as automobiles, are based in some way on simple machines.
