Hill, Faith (1967-…), is a famous country singer who has also gained many fans for her pop music performances. Hill has recorded many number-one albums and singles as a soloist. Since 1996, she has also recorded vocal duets with her husband, the country music star Tim McGraw.
Hill was born on Sept. 21, 1967, in Jackson, Mississippi. Her real name was Audrey Faith Perry. Hill began singing publicly as a child. At the age of 19, she moved to Nashville, the center of the country music industry, to pursue a music career. Hill released her first album, Take Me As I Am, in 1993. The album was a hit and included the number-one single, “Wild One.” Hill had another number-one single in 1995 with the title song of her second album, It Matters to Me (1995).
Hill’s next three albums—Faith (1998), Breathe (1999), and Cry (2002)—had a pop music sound. The single “This Kiss” from Faith not only reached number one on the country charts but made number seven on the pop music charts, expanding Hill’s audience beyond her core fans.
Hill returned to a more country sound with the album Fireflies (2005). “Mississippi Girl,” a single from the album, was a number-one hit. Another single from the album, “Like We Never Loved at All,” a duet with Tim McGraw, also was a hit.
Hill has won a number of Grammy Awards, including twice winning the best female country vocal performance award, in 2001, for “Breathe,” and in 2003, for “Cry.” She also won the 2001 Grammy for Best Country Album for Breathe. She twice won the Grammy for best country collaboration with vocals for duets with McGraw: in 2001, for ”Let’s Make Love,” and in 2006, for “Like We Never Loved at All.”
