Nestor, Daniel (1972-…), an outstanding Canadian tennis player, ranks among the finest doubles players in modern tennis history. Nestor was one of the few men to win all four of the grand slam tennis championships in doubles in the Open era, which began in 1968. The Open era permitted professional and amateur players to compete together in tournaments. The grand slam tournaments are the Australian Open, the French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open.
With Mark Knowles of the Bahamas, Nestor won the Australian Open in 2002, the US Open in 2004, and the French Open in 2007. Nestor won Wimbledon in 2008 and 2009 and the French Open in 2010 with Nenad Zimonjić of Serbia. He won the French Open in 2011 and 2012 with Max Mirnyi of Belarus. Nestor also won the 2007 Australian Open mixed doubles championship with Elena Likhovtseva of Russia and the 2011 championship with Katarina Srebotnik of Slovenia. Nestor won the 2013 Wimbledon and 2014 Australian Open mixed doubles titles with Kristina Mladenovic of France. In the 2000 Summer Olympic Games, Nestor and Sébastien Lareau won the gold medal in men’s doubles for Canada.
Daniel Mark Nestor was born on Sept. 4, 1972, in Belgrade in what is now Serbia. He moved with his family to Canada in 1976, settling in Toronto. Nestor turned professional in 1991. He retired in 2018.
