Brodeur, Martin, << broh DOOR, mahr TAN >> (1972-…), a Canadian ice hockey player, ranks among the greatest goaltenders in the history of the National Hockey League (NHL). In 2009, Brodeur broke Patrick Roy’s record of 551 career regular-season victories by a goalkeeper. Also in 2009, Brodeur broke Terry Sawchuk’s career shutouts record of 103. Brodeur also holds the single-season record for victories with 48. Brodeur has won the Vezina Trophy as the NHL’s best goalkeeper four times, in 2003, 2004, 2007, and 2008.

Brodeur played 21 seasons with the New Jersey Devils before joining the St. Louis Blues in 2014. He helped New Jersey win the Stanley Cup in 1995, 2000, and 2003. Brodeur also played on the Canadian national team that won the gold medal in the 2002 Winter Olympic Games. He announced his retirement as a player in 2015 to take a management position with St. Louis.

Martin Pierre Brodeur was born on May 6, 1972, in Montreal. He played Canadian major junior hockey from 1989 through 1992. New Jersey selected him as the 20th selection in the first round of the NHL entry draft in 1990. Brodeur played briefly with the Devils in 1992 and then played for the Utica Devils of the American Hockey League in 1992 and 1993 before joining New Jersey permanently in the 1993-1994 season. He won the 1994 Calder Trophy as the NHL’s Rookie of the Year. He was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2018.
