Irish red and white setter is a large, athletic dog with a white coat and solid red patches. It is known as a spirited animal that thrives on outdoor activities. People keep the Irish red and white setter as a pet and sometimes as a hunting dog.
The dog reaches 22 to 26 inches (56 to 66 centimeters) tall at the shoulder. It typically weighs from 50 to 75 pounds (23 to 34 kilograms).
The Irish red and white setter was originally bred in Ireland. It is a close relative of the Irish setter. As the popularity of the Irish setter grew, the red and white setter went into decline. It had nearly disappeared by the end of the 1800’s. In the 1940’s, the breed began to reappear in Ireland.
