Moran, Jerry (1954-…), became a United States senator in 2011. Moran, a Republican, represents Kansas. Before his election to the Senate, Moran served in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Moran was born in Great Bend, Kansas, on May 29, 1954. He received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Kansas in 1976. He completed a law degree from the university in 1981. After graduation, Moran worked as a banker in Hays, Kansas. He later established a law practice in the town.
In 1988, Moran won election to the Kansas state Senate. He served there until 1996. For two years, he held office as the state Senate’s majority leader. Moran won election to a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives in 1996 and began serving in 1997. As a congressman, Moran became known for his conservative positions on taxes, abortion, and gun control. He also focused on agriculture, transportation, and veterans’ issues. In 2010, Moran won election to a seat in the U.S. Senate. He took office in 2011. Moran was reelected in 2016 and 2022.
