Durant, Kevin

Durant, Kevin (1988-…), is a star forward in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Durant played for the Seattle SuperSonics (later the Oklahoma City Thunder) from 2007 until 2016, when he signed to play with the Golden State Warriors. In his first season with Golden State in 2016-2017, Durant helped lead the team to the NBA championship and was named the Most Valuable Player of the final round of the playoffs. Durant also won the award in 2017-2018 as Golden State beat the Cleveland Cavaliers to win its second straight NBA championship. Following the 2018-2019 season, Durant signed a contract to play for the Brooklyn Nets. He missed the 2019-2020 season while recovering from injury. The Nets traded Durant to the Phoenix Suns in February 2023.

In the 2009-2010 season, Durant became the youngest player ever to lead the league in scoring, averaging 30.1 points per game. He also led the NBA in scoring for the 2010-2011 season, averaging 27.7 points per game; the 2011-2012 season, averaging 28 points per game; and the 2013-2014 season, averaging 32 points per game. Durant stands 6 feet 11 inches (211 centimeters) tall. He is known for his range as a field goal shooter and is also one of the NBA’s most accurate free throw shooters. Durant was named the NBA Most Valuable Player for the 2013-2014 season.

Kevin Wayne Durant was born on Sept. 29, 1988, in Washington, D.C. He played college basketball at the University of Texas for the 2006-2007 season, earning the national player of the year award. After his freshman year, Durant left college to play in the NBA. The Seattle SuperSonics selected him as the second player picked in the 2007 NBA draft. He was NBA Rookie of the Year for 2007-2008. After the end of that season, the Seattle franchise moved to Oklahoma City. He led the men’s USA basketball team to the gold medal in the 2010 World Championships with a record scoring average for the event. He also starred on United States national teams that won gold medals at the 2012, 2016, 2020, and 2024 Summer Olympic Games.
