Pisces is a constellation known as the Fish. It is said to represent two fish. Pisces is an equatorial constellation located mostly in the Northern Hemisphere. It borders several other constellations, including Aquarius, Aries, and Pegasus. It is best viewed from September through November. Pisces was among the 48 constellations defined by the ancient Greek mathematician Ptolemy. Today, it is one of 88 constellations recognized by the International Astronomical Union (IAU), the leading authority in the naming of heavenly objects. Pisces is also one of the 12 signs of the zodiac used in astrology (see Pisces ).
Pisces can be drawn in several ways. In one common configuration, the stars are connected in a āVā shape. Each arm of the āVā represents a fish.
Pisces contains few bright stars and can be difficult to see in its entirety without an extremely dark sky. The sun passes through Pisces during the march equinox, the first day of spring in the Northern Hemisphere and the first day of autumn in the Southern.
