Dravid, Rahul

Dravid, Rahul (1973-…), an Indian cricket star, ranks among the greatest batsmen in the history of the sport. At the time of his retirement from international competition in 2012, Dravid ranked as the third highest all-time scorer in Test matches, behind Sachin Tendulkar of India and Ricky Ponting of Australia. Test matches are a form of international competition. They are considered part of the highest level of play in the sport. Dravid served as captain of the Indian national Test team from 2005 to 2007. Dravid was a right-handed batsman. His bowling style was right arm off break. His 210 catches is a Test record for a player other than a wicket keeper. During his career, Dravid scored 13,288 runs in Test matches and 10,889 runs in One Day International (ODI) competition. He and Tendulkar are the only Indian cricket players to score at least 10,000 runs in both Test and ODI competitions. In 2004, the International Cricket Council named Dravid the Player of the Year and the Test Player of the Year.

Rahul Sharad Dravid was born on Jan. 11, 1973, in Indore in the state of Madhya Pradesh . He played junior cricket for the state of Karnataka . In international competition, he made his ODI debut in 1996 against Sri Lanka and his Test debut later the same year against England . In domestic competition, Dravid played for Karnataka from 1990 through 2012; Kent in England in 2000; Scotland in 2003; the Royal Challengers Bangalore from 2008 through 2010; and the Rajasthan Royals from 2011 to 2013.
