Watson, Emma (1990-…), is a British motion-picture actress. She became known for her role as the girl wizard Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter series of motion pictures. The films were based on a popular series of fantasy novels by the British author J. K. Rowling . The films were released from 2001 to 2011.
Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born on April 15, 1990, in Paris, France. Her parents, British lawyers, were living there at the time. Watson’s mother and father divorced in 1995. She then moved with her mother and brother to Oxfordshire, England. She attended a theater school as a child and acted in school plays and local productions. Watson received a bachelor’s degree in English literature from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, in 2014.
Watson made her first motion-picture appearance in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (2001). She received high praise for her performance as a classmate of the boy wizard Harry Potter. Watson’s other notable films include Ballet Shoes (2007); My Week with Marilyn (2011); The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012); The Bling Ring (2013); Beauty and the Beast (2017); and Little Women (2019), based on a novel by the American author Louisa May Alcott .
Watson provided the voice of the character Princess Pea in the animated movie The Tale of Despereaux (2008). The film was based on a children’s novel by the American author Kate DiCamillo .
