Dixit, Madhuri, << dihk SHIHT, mah DREE >> (1967-…), is an Indian motion-picture actress and dancer known for her beauty and lively personality. She became one of Bollywood’s most popular stars in the 1990’s. Bollywood is the name for India’s motion-picture industry. Dixit has won a number of Filmfare Awards for acting. Filmfare Awards are presented annually for artistic and technical excellence in filmmaking in the Hindi language . The Indian magazine Filmfare presents the awards. In 2011, Dixit won a special Filmfare Award for her 25 years in the Indian film industry. Dixit has acted in more than 65 films.

Madhuri Shankar Dixit was born in Bombay (now Mumbai ) on May 15, 1967. As a child, she was trained in kathak, a form of Indian classical dance . She later attended Parle College and studied microbiology. Dixit made her motion-picture debut in the romantic drama Abodh (1984). In 1988, she gained notice in the romantic musical Tezaab for her portrayal of a young woman who dances to earn money for her father’s drinking and gambling habits.

Dixit’s other notable films include Dil (1990), Saajan (1991), Beta (1992), Khal Nayak (1993), Hum Aapke Hain Koun. . . ! (1994), Raja (1995), Dil To Pagal Hai and Mrityu Dand (both 1997), Pukar (2000), Lajja (2001), Devdas (2002), and Aaja Nachle (2007).

In 1999, Dixit married Sriram Madhav Nene, an American surgeon of Indian background. From 2010 to 2014, Dixit was a judge on “Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa,” an Indian version of the popular dance competition television shows ”Strictly Come Dancing” in the United Kingdom and “Dancing with the Stars” in the United States.
