Khan, Shahrukh << KAHN, shah ROOK >> (1965-…), is an Indian motion-picture actor. He is one of the world’s most successful film stars. His name is also written as Shah Rukh Khan. Khan is popularly known as “the king of Bollywood.” Bollywood is the name for India’s motion-picture industry. Khan has acted in more than 70 Hindi films. He has won a number of Filmfare Awards for acting. Filmfare Awards are presented annually for artistic and technical excellence in filmmaking in the Hindi language. The Indian magazine Filmfare presents the awards.

Sharukh Khan was born on Nov. 2, 1965, in New Delhi, India. He earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Hansraj College, University of Delhi. He then studied mass communications at Jamia Millia Islamia in Delhi, India. Khan studied acting at the Theatre Action Group in New Delhi. In the late 1980’s and early 1990’s, Khan appeared on a number of Indian television programs. These included the TV series “Fauji” and “Circus,” the TV movie In Which Annie Gives It Those Ones (1989), and the TV miniseries Idiot (1991).

Khan made his theatrical motion-picture debut in the romantic musical Deewana (1992). His other notable films include Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman (1992); Darr and Baazigar (both 1993); Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa and Anjaam (both 1994); Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995); Dil To Pagal Hai and Yes Boss (both 1997); Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998); Baadshah (1999); Mohabbatein (2000); Asoka and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham . . . (both 2001); Devdas (2002); Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003); Swades and Veer-Zaara (both 2004); Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006); Don (2006) and its sequel, Don 2 (2011); Chak De! India and Om Shanti Om (both 2007); Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (2008); My Name Is Khan (2010); Ra.One (2011); Happy New Year (2014); Dilwale (2015); Raees (2017); and Pathaan (2023). Khan also owns a film production company.
