Kimbra

Kimbra (1990-…) is a New Zealand singer and guitarist. She is known for her soulful, jazzy singing voice and stylish music videos. Kimbra sang on the hit duet “Somebody that I Used to Know” (2011) by the Belgian-Australian singer, songwriter, and musician Gotye . The song reached number one on the singles charts in many countries. In the United States and the United Kingdom, it was the top-selling single for 2012. Kimbra and Gotye won Grammy Awards in 2013 for record of the year and best pop duo/group performance for the song.

Kimbra Lee Johnson was born on March 27,1990, in Hamilton, New Zealand. She began writing songs as a child and began learning guitar around age 13. Kimbra began performing when she was a teenager and sang in a jazz choir in high school. In 2007, Kimbra won a New Zealand television award for best breakthrough music video for her song “Simply on My Lips.” Soon after, she was signed to an Australian music label and moved to Australia.

Kimbra’s first single, “Settle Down,” was released in 2010. That year, she was also featured on the song “I Look to You” by the Australian group Miami Horror. In 2011, Kimbra’s debut album, Vows, was released in Australia. It was reworked for its 2012 release in the United States. It featured the singles “Settle Down” and “Cameo Lover.”
