Fallon, Jimmy

Fallon, Jimmy (1974-…), is a popular American comedian, television personality, and actor. He is known for his impressions of famous people. Fallon gained fame as a cast member of the late-night television comedy variety show “Saturday Night Live,” often called SNL, from 1998 to 2004. In 2009, he became the host of the late-night variety show “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.” He succeeded Conan O’Brien , the host of “Late Night with Conan O’Brien.” Fallon hosted the show until 2014. That year, he became the host of “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” succeeding Jay Leno , the host of “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.” Fallon won a 2012 Emmy Award for outstanding guest actor in a comedy series for hosting an episode of SNL. He won a Grammy Award for best comedy album for Blow Your Pants Off (2012).

James Thomas Fallon, Jr., was born in the Brooklyn section of New York City on Sept. 19, 1974, and grew up in Saugerties, New York. After graduating from high school in 1992, Fallon studied computer science at the College of Saint Rose in Albany, New York. Around this time, he began performing stand-up comedy . In 1995, Fallon moved to Los Angeles, where he studied with the Groundlings comedy group. He received a bachelor’s degree in communications from the College of Saint Rose in 2009.

Fallon made his motion-picture acting debut in the drama Almost Famous (2000). His other films include the HBO World War II (1939-1945) miniseries Band of Brothers (2001), the romantic comedies Anything Else (2003) and Fever Pitch (2005), and the action comedy Taxi (2004).

In 1999, Fallon released the book I Hate This Place: The Pessimist’s Guide to Life, a humorous collection of e-mail exhchanges with his sister, Gloria Fallon. With other writers from “Late Night,” Fallon co-wrote the books Thank You Notes (2011) and Thank You Notes 2 (2012). He also wrote the children’s books Snowball Fight! (2005) and Your Baby’s First Word Will Be DADA (2015).
