Scott, Adam (1980-…), is a leading Australian professional golfer. In 2013, Scott became the first Australian golfer to win the Masters Tournament. The Masters is one of the four majors of golf, along with the United States Open, the British Open, and the United States PGA (Professional Golfers’ Association) Championship. The Masters was Scott’s first major title.
Scott’s international success as a golfer has made him one of the most popular sports personalities in Australia. In May 2014, Scott reached the number one ranking in the world among male professional golfers. He was the second Australian to achieve the top ranking. Greg Norman was the first, holding the ranking several times from 1986 to 1998.
Adam Derek Scott was born on July 16, 1980, in Adelaide, Australia. He took up golf as a child and was the Australian Boys’ Amateur champion in 1997 and 1998. Scott attended the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, from 1998 to 1999. He competed on the university golf team for one season before turning professional in 2000.
Within a few years, Scott had become a star on the European and Asian tours. He won his first tournament on the United States tour in 2003. He finished third in both the 2006 and the 2018 PGA Championships, and finished second in the 2012 British Open. In 2022, Scott was made a Member of the Order of Australia for his services to golf. The Order of Australia is Australia’s highest award for service to the country or to humanity.
