Pink (1979-…) is an American singer, songwriter, and actress. She is known for her powerful singing voice and her acrobatic performances in concert. Pink has won several Grammy Awards for her music.
Pink was born on Sept. 8, 1979, in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. Her real name is Alecia Beth Moore. She took the stage name Pink from a nickname she picked up as a teenager. Her friends called her Pink because they thought she resembled the character of a diamond thief called Mr. Pink in the 1992 crime thriller Reservoir Dogs. Moore began singing as a child. At about age 13, she began dancing and singing in clubs in Philadelphia. Around this time, she also began performing in an all-female group called Basic Instinct. At age 16, Pink joined another all-female group called Choice. Choice disbanded in 1998, and Pink became a solo performer.
Pink’s first solo album, Can’t Take Me Home, was released in 2000 and became a hit. “There You Go,” her first single from the album, became a hit in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand. The album also featured the hits “Most Girls” and “You Make Me Sick.” Her second album, Missundaztood (2001), featured the single “Get the Party Started.” The song became a top-10 hit in many countries. Pink’s other albums include Try This (2003), I’m not Dead (2006), Funhouse (2008), The Truth About Love (2012), and Beautiful Trauma (2017).
Pink’s other hit songs include “Lady Marmalade” (with Christina Aguilera, Lil’ Kim, and Mya) (2001), “Just Like a Pill” (2002), “So What” (2008), “Raise Your Glass” (2010), “Blow Me (One Last Kiss)” and “Just Give Me a Reason” (both 2012), and others.
Pink has appeared on television and in motion pictures. She made her motion-picture acting debut in the action film Rollerball (2002). She also acted in the action comedy Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle (2003), the horror thriller Catacombs (2007), the comedy Get Him to the Greek (2010), and the romantic comedy Thanks for Sharing (2012). Pink provided the voice of the penguin Gloria in the animated film Happy Feet Two (2011). In 2006, she married the American motocross and motorcycle racer Carey Hart.
