Meyers, Seth

Meyers, Seth (1973-…), is an American comedian, writer, and actor. He gained fame for his work on the late-night television comedy variety show “Saturday Night Live,” often called SNL, from 2001 to 2014. Meyers became known for his satirical commentary on current events as “anchor” of the show’s “Weekend Update” news parody segment. Meyers was the longest-serving actor in that role in the show’s history. In 2014, he became the host of the late-night variety show “Late Night with Seth Meyers.” He succeeded Jimmy Fallon, the host of “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.” In 2011, Meyers won an Emmy Award for his work on SNL.

Seth Adam Meyers was born in Bedford, New Hampshire, on Dec. 28, 1973. He graduated from Northwestern University in 1996 with a degree in communication. Meyers studied and performed with the ImprovOlympic improvisational comedy troupe in Chicago. He then performed in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, with Boom Chicago, an English-language improvisational comedy troupe. Meyers joined the SNL cast in 2001. In 2005, he was promoted to head writer. In 2006, he became anchor of “Weekend Update.”

Meyers made his motion-picture acting debut in the comedy See This Movie (2004). He acted in the drama Perception (2005), the comedy American Dreamz (2006), and the adventure Journey to the Center of the Earth and the comedy Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist (both 2008). He also appeared in the comedy Spring Breakdown (2009) and in the comedy I Don’t Know How She Does It and the romantic comedy New Year’s Eve (both 2011). Beginning in 2013, Meyers provided his voice for a character on the animated web series “The Awesomes.”
