Boston Garden

Boston Garden was a famous sports arena that stood on top of North Station, a railroad station in Boston . The Boston Garden opened in 1928 and closed in 1995. It was demolished in 1998.

The Boston Garden was best known as the home of the Boston Celtics of the National Basketball Association and the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League . It also hosted music concerts, boxing and wrestling matches, circus performances, ice shows, and political rallies. The capacity ranged from about 14,500 people for hockey and about 15,000 for basketball to about 16,000 for concerts.

The functions of the Boston Garden were taken over by a new arena erected next to the old arena. The building opened in 1995 as the Shawmutt Center and was soon renamed the FleetCenter. It is now named TD Garden, after the name of its sponsor, TD Bank. TD Garden has a larger seating capacity than the Boston Garden—17,565 for hockey, 18,624 for basketball, and some 19,600 for concerts.
