Rivlin, Reuven (1939-…), served as president of Israel from 2014 to 2021. Rivlin is a long-time member of the conservative Likud party. He succeeded President Shimon Peres, who had been in office since 2007. Rivlin served as speaker of the Knesset, the Israeli parliament, from 2003 to 2006 and from 2009 to 2013.
Rivlin was born on Sept. 9, 1939, in Jerusalem. He served as an officer in the Israeli army and later earned a law degree from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Rivlin was first elected to the Knesset in 1988. He served as Likud chairman from 1988 to 1993. He served as minister of communications from 2001 to 2003.
