Lambert, Miranda (1983-…), is a popular country music singer and songwriter. She has been praised for her ties to traditional country music and her avoidance of a more commercial, popular-music sound. Lambert’s albums have sold millions of copies. She has won multiple Grammy Awards for her music. Lambert also has received numerous awards, including many for female vocalist of the year, from the Academy of Country Music and the Country Music Association.
Miranda Leigh Lambert was born on Nov. 10, 1983, in Longview, Texas. She grew up in Lindale, Texas. Lambert’s father taught her how to play the guitar, and she began performing locally and writing songs in her teens. Lambert formed her own country band, Texas Pride, when she was 17. She finished high school early to pursue her music career.
In 2003, Lambert placed third on the TV program “Nashville Star,” a country music singing contest. Her performance impressed the judges, who helped her secure her first major recording contract. Lambert’s first single record, “Me and Charlie Talking,” was released in 2004. Her first major studio album, Kerosene (2005), sold more than 1 million copies. Lambert’s songs have been noted for their strong female characters, serious content, and defiant lyrics. Lambert also has earned praise from critics for her songwriting skills.
In 2011, Lambert formed an all-female country trio with fellow singer-songwriters Ashley Monroe and Angaleena Presley. The group, called the Pistol Annies, has released a number of successful albums. From 2011 to 2015, Lambert was married to the American country music star Blake Shelton .
Lambert is well known for her work with charitable causes, particularly those involving animals. In 2009, she and her mother, Bev Lambert, founded MuttNation Foundation, an organization that promotes the adoption of shelter pets.
