Davis and White

Davis and White are an American team of champion ice dancers. In 2014, Meryl Davis (1987-…) and Charlie White (1987-…) became the first United States ice dancing team to win an Olympic Games gold medal. Their Olympic performances received the highest point total ever recorded in ice dancing, until the Canadian team of Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir set a new record at the 2018 Olympic Games. Davis and White had won the silver medal at the 2010 Olympics. The team won the world championship in 2011 and 2013, becoming the first American skaters to win the world ice dancing title. They had won silver medals in the event in 2010 and 2012. Davis and White won the U.S. ice dancing championship six consecutive years, from 2009 through 2014.

Meryl Elizabeth Davis was born in Royal Oak, Michigan, on Jan. 1, 1987, and raised in West Bloomfield, Michigan. Charles Allen White, Jr., was born in Royal Oak on Oct. 24, 1987, and raised in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Both began skating lessons at the age of 5 in the U.S. Figure Skating Basic Skills Program. They became a team in 1997. During the 2005-2006 season, they won the U.S. junior title and took the bronze medal at the World Junior Championships. They graduated to senior competition in the 2006-2007 season and won the bronze medal at the U.S. championships. Davis and White were both pursuing degrees at the University of Michigan when they won the 2014 Olympic gold medal.

In 2014, after the Olympic Games, Davis won the television contest “Dancing with the Stars” with her dance partner, Maksim Chmerkovskiy. White and his dance partner, Sharna Burgess, were semi-finalists. Davis and White then decided to take a break from competitive skating, choosing not to defend their title at the 2018 Olympic Games.
