Curry, Stephen (1988-…), is a star guard for the Golden State Warriors of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Curry has been called one of the greatest shooters in NBA history, often making 25- and 30-foot (7.6 and 9.1-meter) 3-point shots with a flick of his wrist while being closely guarded. Curry stands 6 feet 3 inches (191 centimeters) in height and weighs 190 pounds (86 kilograms). His mixture of an outgoing and sunny disposition and a swaggering self-confidence have made him one of the most popular athletes in American sports. He was named the NBA‘s Most Valuable Player for the 2014-2015 season, when he helped lead the Warriors to the NBA championship. Curry was also named the league’s Most Valuable Player for the 2015-2016 season. Curry’s teams won additional NBA titles in 2016-2017, 2017-2018, and 2021-2022.
Curry led the NBA in scoring for the 2015-2016 season with an average of 30.1 points per game. He made more three-point shots than any other player in the NBA for five consecutive seasons, from 2012 through 2017, and again in 2020-2021 and 2021-2022. He broke his own NBA record for 3-pointers in a season in 2015-2016 with 402. Curry’s complementary skills as a passer, dribbler, and rebounder make him one of the NBA’s most complete players. Curry led the NBA in steals in the 2014-2015 season with 163 and in 2015-2016 with 169. He also led the league in the percentage of free throws made in 2010-2011, 2014-2015, 2015-2016, and 2017-2018. Curry won his second scoring title during the 2020-2021 season, averaging 32 points per game. In December 2021, Curry made his 2,974th career 3-pointer, breaking a record that Ray Allen set in 2014. Curry was named the NBA Finals Most Valuable Player in 2022 after leading his team to the league championship for the 2021-2022 season. In 2024, Curry helped lead the United States men’s basketball team to a gold medal at the Summer Olympic Games in Paris, France.
Wardell Stephen “Steph” Curry II was born on March 14, 1988, in Akron, Ohio, the oldest son of former NBA player Dell Curry. Steph grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina. He attended Davidson College, building a reputation as a scorer during his three years at the school. Curry left Davidson after his junior year to enter the NBA draft. Golden State selected him as the 7th player during the 1st round. He finished second in the Rookie of the Year voting for 2009-2010 and won the NBA’s Sportsmanship Award in 2011. Steph’s younger brother, Seth, also plays basketball professionally.
