FC Dallas

FC Dallas is a professional soccer team in the United States . FC stands for football club. Soccer is called football in much of the world. Formerly called the Burn, the team competes in the Western Conference of Major League Soccer (MLS), the top soccer league in the United States and Canada . The team plays its home games at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas , a suburb of Dallas .

Dallas was one of the founding teams of MLS in 1996. At that time, the club was called the Burn. The team reached the MLS Cup Playoffs every season until 2003, but never advanced beyond the conference finals. In 1997, Dallas won the U.S. Open Cup, an annual tournament open to amateur and professional soccer clubs in the United States. FC Dallas won the U.S. Open Cup again in 2016.

In 2004, the Burn was renamed FC Dallas. The club appeared in the MLS Cup Playoffs again from 2005 to 2007. In 2010, FC Dallas finally reached the MLS Cup final, but lost the championship to the Colorado Rapids . The club reached the Western Conference finals again in 2015, only to lose to the Portland Timbers . In 2016, Dallas finished first in the Western Conference and won the Supporters’ Shield as the MLS team with the best regular season record.

The club’s MLS Cup final appearance qualified Dallas for the CONCACAF (Confederation of North, Central America, and Caribbean Association Football) Champions League , an annual tournament among that region’s best professional clubs. FC Dallas qualified for the tournament again in 2015, when the club had the best regular season record in the Western Conference, and in 2016, when it had the best record in MLS. Dallas has advanced as far as that tournament’s quarterfinals.
