Treeing Walker coonhound

Treeing Walker coonhound is an energetic hound bred for its hunting abilities. The dog is used to track and tree (trap in a tree) wild raccoons. Its bark can carry for miles, alerting hunters to its treed prey. The treeing Walker coonhound was developed from the Walker foxhound, a descendent of the earliest English foxhounds brought to the Americas. Both are named for the American breeder John W. Walker.

The treeing Walker coonhound has a short and smooth coat that may be a mixture of white, black, and tan. It stands 20 to 27 inches (51 to 69 centimeters) tall and weighs 50 to 70 pounds (23 to 32 kilograms). The treeing Walker coonhound has a sharp nose, great speed, and excellent stamina.
