The Entlebucher mountain dog originated from the Entlebuch Valley of Switzerland in the district of the cantons Lucerne and Bern. The dog was bred to herd cattle up and down sloping pastures.
The Entlebucher mountain dog has a short, dense, shiny coat of black, white, and tan. It has short, but sturdy legs and stands 16 to 21 inches (41 to 53 centimeters) tall at the shoulder. It weighs 55 to 65 pounds (25 to 29 kilograms). The Entlebucher is remarkably strong for its size.
