Renegade

Renegade is a dance that was popularized on social media in 2019. It was created by Jalaiah Harmon, a 14-year-old student in Fayetteville, Georgia . In September 2019, a friend helped Harmon film herself performing a complex series of hip-hop dance moves to the song “Lottery (Renegade)” (2019), by the American rapper K Camp. Harmon posted the video clip to the video-sharing service Funimate, and then to Instagram .

The dance went viral (grew rapidly in popularity) after other people began performing it on the video-sharing service TikTok . Many celebrities were filmed doing the dance, including the pop music star Lizzo and members of the K-pop (Korean pop music) group Stray Kids. Harmon at first struggled to gain recognition as Renegade’s creator. She was eventually acknowledged, and she performed the dance live at the 2020 National Basketball Association (NBA) All-Star Game.
