Coton de Tulear << `koh` tahn duh TOO lee ahr >> is a charming breed of dog with a soft and thick white coat. Its name comes from the French word for cotton and from the Port of Tulear in Madagascar, where it originated in the 1600’s. It is known as the Royal Dog of Madagascar.
The Coton de Tulear is small, measuring 9 to 11 inches (23 to 28 centimeters) tall and weighs 8 to 15 pounds (4 to 7 kilograms). It has deep brown or black eyes. The Coton’s long, thick white coat feels as soft as cotton.
The Coton de Tulear is happy, intelligent, and adaptable to a range of lifestyles. It makes an exceptional companion dog and a great therapy dog.
