Wirehaired vizsla << VEEZ lah >> is a dog breed that originated in the mid-1930’s in Hungary. The breed originated among hunters who wanted a dog that could withstand hunting in harsh winter conditions. The wirehaired vizsla is known for its beard and pronounced eyebrows, which gives it a lively, yet serious expression.
The wirehaired vizsla differs from the (smooth-haired) vizsla in that it has a dense, weather resistant, wire coat. Both are golden rust in color. The wirehaired vizsla meaures 21 1/2 to 25 inches (55 to 64 centimeters) tall at the shoulders. It weighs 45 to 65 pounds (20 to 29 kilograms).
The wirehaired vizsla has an excellent sense of smell for hunting and tracking animals on land or in water. It is eager to please, loyal, powerful and versatile.
