Harrington, Padraig

Harrington, Padraig (1971-…), is an Irish professional golfer . Harrington has won two of the four major tournaments in men’s golf. He won the British Open twice, in 2007 and 2008, and the United States PGA Championship in 2008. The other two majors are the Masters and the U.S. Open. In 2008, Harrington was named the PGA Tour Player of the Year.

Harrington was born in Dublin , Ireland, on Aug. 31, 1971. He began playing golf at the age of four and entered his first amateur tournament in 1987. He won his first tournament in 1988. Harrington won the Irish Amateur Open Championship in 1995. While playing golf, Harrington studied accounting at Dublin Business College. He passed his final exams in 1994.

Harrington became a professional golfer in 1995. He won his first tournament on the European professional tour in 1996. Harrington also joined the United States PGA Tour, winning his first two tournaments in 2005. Harrington played on the European Ryder Cup team in 1999, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008, and 2010. The Ryder Cup is a competition between U.S. and European golfers that is held every two years. However, Ryder Cup matches were not held in 2001 because of the September 11 terrorist attacks in the United States.
