VSCO

VSCO << VIHS koh >> is a photo-sharing and social networking service known for the professional quality of its photo-editing features. The VSCO app (application) allows users to edit and post (publish online) photographs and videos. VSCO posts have become known for their artistic style and creativity. Unlike traditional social media services, VSCO does not provide a way for users to “like” or comment on posts. VSCO stands for _V_isual _S_upply _Co_mpany, the organization that developed the app.

The VSCO app is known for its presets, photo filters that adjust such aspects of color as brightness (lightness or darkness) and saturation (intensity). Users can adjust the app’s default presets and create new ones. They can use the app’s camera feature to capture photos or videos. This feature gives the user greater control over the brightness, focus, and other aspects of the exposure, making the experience of taking a photograph with a smartphone more like using a sophisticated digital camera. Users can also upload photos previously taken using the camera feature on their smartphones.

VSCO users can export their edited photos or videos to their phone’s photo library, or post them to other social media sites. They can also post them on their VSCO grid. The grid is a collection of the user’s posts, along with reposted content from other users. Each post includes the name of the preset used to edit the image. Users can view posts by others by looking up their accounts or through VSCO Discover. Discover presents a selection of photos chosen by the company. Hashtags can be used to link a post to other posts with a similar subject. A hashtag is a word or phrase run together without any spaces and preceded by the hash symbol or pound sign (#). Hashtags are often used to organize posts on social media sites. VSCO also uses a computerized mathematical procedure called an algorithm that continuously learns a users’ preferences and interests. The algorithm then suggests posts and videos that may be of interest to that particular user.

VSCO is particularly popular among young people. The site gained broad public attention in 2019, with the trend of the “VSCO girl” and the social media hashtag #vscogirl. VSCO girls are young, female users who became associated with such fashion accessories as puka shell necklaces, oversized t-shirts, and scrunchie-style hair ties. VSCO girls often sport trendy brands and products in their posts. The VSCO girl trend has carried over to other media-sharing sites, including Instagram , TikTok , and YouTube .

VSCO was created by the American entrepreneurs (business developers) Joel Flory and Greg Lutze. They founded Visual Supply Company in 2011. The company developed easy-to-use software versions of professional photo filters. The mobile app, originally named VSCO Cam, was released in 2012.
