Ashwin, Ravichandran

Ashwin, Ravichandran (1986-…), is a star Indian cricket cricket player. Ashwin is an all-rounder (a player skilled in both bowling and batting). He bats right-handed and bowls right-arm off break. Ashwin is the fastest man in the history of Test cricket to take 300 wickets, setting the record against Sri Lanka in 2017. Ashwin was born on Sept. 17, 1986, in the city of Madras (now Chennai) in the state of Tamil Nadu . He attended the Sri Sivasubramaniya Nadar (SSN) College of Engineering in Chennai, graduating with a degree in information technology in 2008.

In India, Ashwin made his first-class cricket debut playing for Tamil Nadu in the 2006-2007 season. But he rose to prominence in the Indian Premier League (IPL), where his outstanding play earned him international recognition. In the IPL Ashwin played for the Chennai Super Kings from 2009 through 2015, for the Rising Pune Supergiant in 2016 and 2017, and for the Kings XI Punjab beginning in 2018.

Internationally, Ashwin made his One Day International match (ODI) debut against Sri Lanka in 2010. He made his Test debut in 2011 against the West Indies. At test level, Ashwin became one of the most successful spin bowlers of his time. He also developed his skills with the bat, making four centuries. In 2016, Ashwin was named Cricketer of the Year by the International Cricket Council (ICC). He was only the third Indian cricketer to win the award, joining Rahul Dravid , who won the honor in 2004, and Sachin Tendulkar , who won the award in 2010. Ashwin also was the ICC’s Test Cricketer of the Year in 2016, joining Dravid as the only Indian cricketer to win both awards in the same year.
